Reaper
Serverless course-opening notification system with millisecond-latency alerts for 1,700+ users across Georgia Tech and UGA
Project Overview
Reaper is a cloud-native course notification system designed to alert students the instant a seat opens. Built on a fully serverless AWS backend (Lambda, DynamoDB, EventBridge, SQS), it uses event-driven design to deliver millisecond-latency alerts.
The system monitors course availability across multiple university systems, processing thousands of course status changes per minute. It grew to 1,700+ users across Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia and reached $8K ARR.
System Architecture
Reaper utilizes a fully serverless architecture built on AWS Lambda functions orchestrated by CloudFormation. The system employs event-driven microservices that scale automatically based on demand, ensuring cost-effective operation while maintaining high availability during peak registration periods.
Performance Metrics
The system processes over 10,000 course status checks per minute across multiple universities, delivering alerts within milliseconds of detecting a seat opening. The architecture maintains high availability during peak registration periods while optimizing costs through intelligent resource scaling.
Scale
Reaper reached 1,700+ users across Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia and $8K ARR, making it the fastest course tracker available to students at both schools.
