Nexus
Personal school command center: Canvas, Outlook, and an AI agent that plans the week
Project Overview
Nexus is my single-user command center for school. Canvas assignments, syllabus-derived deadlines (WeBWorK, Gradescope labs, exams), personal commitments, and Outlook busy time land in one place. A scheduler proposes work blocks that I approve with one tap; approved blocks, deadlines, and exams mirror into a dedicated Outlook calendar, and push notifications plus an email digest close the loop.
I first prototyped it in August 2025 as a priorities and habit tracker, then rebuilt it around scheduling in fall 2026.
Architecture
Next.js 15 App Router on Vercel, with Supabase Postgres through Prisma. A cron tick runs every 5 minutes from Supabase pg_cron (Vercel's free tier only allows a daily cron) to sync Canvas (API with an ICS fallback), reconcile Outlook through Microsoft Graph, and send push notifications (Web Push, with ntfy as a fallback) and Resend email.
An OpenAI-backed agent can read uploaded syllabi and schedule work blocks on its own; completing or cancelling a task still waits for my approval.
At a glance
Nexus at a glance: a Supabase pg_cron job calls the Next.js app every 5 minutes to sync Canvas, reconcile and update Outlook, propose work blocks, and send notifications; the agent chat uses the OpenAI Responses API and asks before completing or cancelling a task.
